Wings of Grace
We caught glimpses of gold on our Sunday walk.
The glow was as though we were listening to brass—
as if nature’s baritones commingled
with the horn of the high-pitched piccolo.
Against a backdrop of pewter,
the fern’s gilded coronet trumpets in its spot;
golds and greens give life to the grays.
Its fronds open to the experience,
as if to embrace the world—and us.
Despite the differences, I perceive a peace.
How, I wonder, to live a state of change
in such grace?
Life’s winds waft us who knows where,
planting us in less than perfect places.
Huddled in harmony among the contrasts—
grace sprouts two small wings.
